How Port Holidays Affect Your Supply Chain

Understanding the [Port of Oakland holiday schedule](https://octruck.com/port-oakland-news/complete-guide-oakland-container-drayage-importers-brokers) is crucial for planning your import and export operations. Here's what you need to know:

- **ILWU Non-working holidays**: Terminals are completely closed with no vessel, yard, or gate operations.
- **ILWU Overtime holidays**: Limited operations with first shift typically open but second shift closed.
- **TBD dates**: Status not yet confirmed; check with terminal operators closer to the date.

Additionally, the Port of Oakland terminals observe monthly **ILWU Stop Work Meetings** on the third Thursday of each month, which may affect shift operations.

## Planning Around Port Holidays

To avoid disruptions to your supply chain:

1. **Book drayage services early** when planning shipments around holidays
2. **Consider pre-pulls** for containers arriving just before holiday closures
3. **Monitor [vessel schedules](https://octruck.com/port-of-oakland-news-vessel-schedule)** for potential delays before or after holidays
4. **Build buffer time** into your delivery schedules around major holidays
5. **Verify terminal status** directly with operators for TBD dates
